Neak Pean Temple

Neak Pean Temple was built in the second half of 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. It is located at middle of the Baray (Artificial Lake) of Preah Khan temple.

This temple was built as a replica of Universe. It consists of Five Ponds. The central ponds is a replica of Lake Anavatapta, in the Himalayas (According to Buddhist Belief, the Lake is situated at the top of universe, which gives birth to the four great rivers of the Earth). The other Fours is replicas of the Four Ocean which surrounds the World, in Buddhism.

This temple was an important holly place of the King and his people. Everyone who had come to bathe in the lake would recover from diseases.
