Siem Reap

Kbal Spean

Kbal Spean is about 50 km northeast of Siem Reap provincial town. This site was built by hermit. It was lately rediscovered in 1969 by Jean Boulbet who was shown the carvings by a local hermit.

Kbal Spean is the original River of Thousand Linga. It is a beautiful natural site with a small clear-watered River. Under the water, hundreds of Shiva Lingas was prepared. And many stones in the river were carved to show scene of in Hinduism, especially the scene of the Birth of Brahma who is born from navel of Shiva who is sleeping on a huge serpent (Naga). Those carvings are shown clearly although they are under the flowing water for centuries.

This river is surrounded by fresh environment with green forest, cold clear water and beautiful sounds of wild birds. Tourists, who have come this attraction, will feel release from everything that make the live in trouble.
